WHALES AND OTHER MONSTERS IN ARENA PO
Challenging every rule and law, Nicola Salvatore's WHALE in a context of beauties and "monsters" (etymologically) to admire ...
Between the scenes of a sort of metaphysical theater, in the time of "today" that is only apparently uncertain and without depth, it challenges logic and the law of gravity: it plows through the air, regardless of the water and the hills that surround and besiege it, giving life in its flight to its essential impulse of existence. Not unlike the flying Dutchman of the darkest and most disturbing Nordic legends, only that it does it with mocking and Mediterranean impudence, as is the style of its author, Nicola Salvatore, who has always elected it, since its beginnings in Salerno, as his own conceptual and stylistic figure, having stripped it of any other biblical or literary terribleness.
Salvatore, who is a proud father, not biological but artistic, motivates its creation as a gesture of challenge and at the same time of trust in a world that, as he said in a recent interview with Carlo Franza, suffers "an absence of truth", a progressive and tragic loss of the true meaning of things, as well as a debasement of aesthetic and spiritual values, to be countered by contrasting it with a decisive reconversion to "doing": confident that the return to constructive and at the same time mocking manual skills, is the the only road that can be followed today, not only in the artistic field, in the belief that "whoever has the courage to laugh, is master of the world", as Leopardi said, to restore to the scene of life through art its abundance of pleasure and emotional purchase.
This is how even here, in Arena Po, light and daring, she ventures to challenge, with her beautiful armamentarium of pipes and steel, like a skilled dancer for a show, the surrounding air and nature fluctuating with her mocking can-can in a condition of precarious balance but also of ecstatic bliss, attempting in a captivating seductive game, beyond all logic, different and alternative spaces and approaches: of knowledge and fulfillment, convinced that only Poetry, active or passive, can give voice to every inspiration, just as Novalis said ("Love is mute; only poetry makes it speak"), strong as it is with a structural unpredictability.
