Borgoratto Mormorolo: paths, lavender, nature and postcard photos

Perhaps you have been a regular visitor of the valleys of Oltrepò Pavese since the 1960s, when people used to come to Borgoratto Mormorolo to have a snack with the local "la micca" bread and excellent salami, and therefore you already know that here you can find many paths to be taken both on foot, by mountain bike or by cross motorbike.
There are paths so many within the reach of all those who want to spend this summer doing moderate physical exercise, while accompanying it with the pleasant sensory experiences that the countryside offers.
The pleasure of seeing the horizon change as you proceed along the gentle ascent of the hills.
Yes, the paths all run between fields of grass, wheat, sunflowers, lavender and saffron and among many vineyards and some groves, but the shape of the hills means that, as you walk, our gaze always encounters new viewpoints, new valleys open up and you can see castles, small hamlets formed by stone houses, a source of sulfur water, some B & Bs, noble estates with stables, some archaeological sites, the important 11th century Parish church.
Those who love photography will be able to capture truly beautiful views.
A landscape constraint, however, defends the territory from industrial settlements.
In short, whatever path you decide to take will allow you to spend a few hours in serene exploration among the cool and always breezy shadows produced by large trees or in the sunny plains of your choice.
There are paths identified by the CAI, the country roads starting from the ss35 that lead to the fields and there are paths that run along the entire crest of the hills around our town. You choose how to reach us.
This year, out of respect for the rules against the spread of Covid-19, it will not be possible to end the day in style by participating in some village party or musical initiative because many have been suppressed, but a lunch or dinner at some local restaurant is still available.

You can stop at the tour of the center of the village of Borgoratto or engage in a long circular walk that allows you to pass through all the hamlets. There are no dangers and especially towards dusk, if you are lucky, you can meet wild animals such as deer, fawns, hedgehogs, squirrels, small foxes and hares and a rich birdlife. 
And for those who prefer, Borgoratto also has a Sports Center with a really well-kept tennis court that you can easily book.

List of trails:
All the paths do not present particular problems and can be done by everyone, of course we recommend wearing shoes suitable for walking even uphill / downhill. For people who are not autonomous in walking we recommend only routes 3-4-6
In various parts of the town you will find signs indicating the direction and average travel times.

1) path to the sulfur water source - you can start from the town center or from the hamlet of Braglia, it is a medium-length path between fields

2) path from Ca 'Bernocchi to Monte Reale - all uphill up to the middle, it is a long journey

3) tour among the old houses in the town center - short but very interesting. You can see both the original houses of the old village as well as the new villas with swimming pools.

4) walk towards the Boia's house, starting from the hamlet of Gabbione on a secondary but asphalted road and reaching the hamlet of Boiolo in its upper part. Unfortunately, the executioner's house does not have its original shape, but it can be recognized because it has mullioned windows. It can also be reached by car.

5) from the Boiolo hamlet to Costa Pelata (fraction of the Municipality of Fortunago) between broom and pine forest - very long, but not particularly demanding because it runs horizontally on the crest of the hill. The only problem if you go on foot is that you have to find a ride back, if you don't want to go all the way back.

6) from the hamlet of Braglia to the hamlet of Casa Facchini - short on a secondary asphalted road. In this hamlet there is an ancient tower in the upper part of the hamlet.

7) inside the grove of Gabbione for those who love wandering through the woods. It is a small wood very close to the main road. In the woods it is possible to meet animals and mushroom hunters.

8) the old road towards the church - from the hamlet of Braglia to the center of Borgoratto - was the shortcut that the inhabitants of the hamlets located further down took to go to mass in the past. Not particularly demanding, uphill, but partially asphalted.

9) halfway road from Boiolo to Borgoratto - long but simple. The initial part is common to path 5

10) path from the hamlet of Braglia (children's park) to Boatta and Stefanago castle - long but simple and rather shady.

11) challenging road both uphill and downhill. It starts from the hamlet of Zebedo and arrives at the Municipality of Fortunago. Short, just over a kilometer, but very uphill. It is a traffic road, and it is paved.

12) Borgoratto ring - tour of the hamlets - is a long route and requires you to have a few hours available if you want to do it on foot.
